Ep 3: Still in the Frying Pan and Into the Fire

Here's the thing about being an adventurer in Middle Earth...

You will encounter spiders. No question. They will be big, and gross, and...did I mention they’re spiders?

That's the risk you take if you want to wander around in The Lord of the Rings narrative.

And our group of adventurers playing through The One Ring RPG get to experience the spiders of Mirkwood Forest firsthand.

With their travel companions in danger, the cast of The Party Business Podcast faces the dark of Mirkwood. They've at least found their companion and even started to help him escape (even if he's unconscious from being bitten.)

But actually pulling off that escape is another task altogether, which brings us to Episode 3 of The Party Business Podcast

Euric has a spider that's coming in a little too close. Katvera is trying to put an arrow through it. Thakhid is pretending he's back home. Ted is marveling that he gets his own spider story now. And Rhori is, well, trying to set the whole forest on fire.

The group will need some quick thinking and even quicker feet to escape the spiders of Mirkwood that are looking to make a nice lunch of all of them.

What's great about The One Ring RPG is how much it leans into the roleplay element of tabletop RPGs. I know I've said that before but it really starts shining through as we get more and more used to the mechanics of The One Ring RPG.

And to be able to play in Tolkien's Middle Earth is an absolute delight.

The world feels so tangible and real, not only because Tolkien himself has made it so deep, but because the mechanics of The One Ring RPG help slow things down enough to get you settled in the world.

Sure, D&D has those crazy moments where someone summons a celestial dolphin out of thin air or polymorphs the boss into a rat, but The One Ring RPG makes you feel immersed in the world.

We go into more detail in our review of some of the more unique features here. Check it out if you want to dive into some of the nuts and bolts of the game.

But, a great way to learn and see what I mean is to listen to The Party Business Podcast as we play The One Ring RPG.
